Finished migrating posts across

Published by jaseone under Uncategorized

I just finished migrating the handful of messages I had posted on my previous Blog, I just did it manually although I could have probably written a script in MySQL to migrate them across it just wasn’t worth it as there was only a few messages.

I have also started to play with some of the new Wordpress plugins as you can see from the weather information in the sidebar, that probably won’t be it’s final resting place as it doesn’t look quite right plus I need to start hacking a bit on the templates to add my own touches and didn’t get a chance to get into the nitty gritty last night.

Changed my mind again

Published by jaseone under Uncategorized

I’m switching back to WordPress again, there is just something that draws me to it and after hearing about the 1.5 nightlies I just couldn’t help myself.

I’ll get around to reposting the handful of applicable posts that I had already made soon but not right now as well I can’t be bothered. :P

Aussie style roast beef sandwiches in Texas

Published by jaseone under Life

If any Aussies out there like myself are stuck in Texas or one of the other southern states and craving a good, hot roast beef sandwich but keep on getting the processed deli meat variety that you get most places then stress no more.

What you actually want is a “Beef Brisket sandwich” (or po boy if you want a roll instead), now it’s not exactly the same as roast beef as it has a slightly smokey taste to it as it is Texan style BBQ but it’s the closest you’ll find anywhere, the only thing is though most BBQ places aren’t likely to have brown gravy and even if they did you’d be ridiculed for wanting it on your “BBQ” anyway.

That was actually my biggest Australian craving over here that I couldn’t satisfy, now if only some places over here would start stocking Tooheys New so far it looks like it is mainly just California, hopefully Specs picks it up soon. I actually relented and bought a six pack of Fosters for Australia Day and well it was just awful plus it is actually brewed by some Canadian company under the supervision of Fosters so even the Australian thing wasn’t there!

Website facelift

Published by jaseone under Website

Just started giving my website a much needed face lift after the move to the new domain and the new host, yes I know the montage has one image slightly off but it’s too late to play move that layer with a touchpad and Megan is currently holding my mouse hostage so I will fix it on the morrow.

I also plan to tweak some of the colors, add some random silly and/or witty comments Megan or I make in daily life on the right, update all the content including my resume and to modify the theme of this blog so it fits in better with the rest of the site.

For now though it is time to retire for the evening.

Moving bites or is it cool?

Published by jaseone under Life

Usually moving house would leave a bitter taste in my mouth but this time around it isn’t going to be too bad well for me at least, I am yet to build up very many possessions over here in Houston, USA after relocating from Perth, Australia about a year and ahalf ago so moving me will be pretty easy except for some bedroom and living room furniture but that is nothing…

However as I’m moving in with my girlfriend, that is where the fun will be had! If in a few weeks I am suddenly blogging from a hospital bed while in traction then you can safely assume it is from lifting boxes upon boxes upon more boxes upon yet more boxes of books, more books and yet more books. Thankfully the new place has this fancy entry way that is just perfect for some big bookcases as I just detest clutter and as well intentioned as anyone is bookcases just become cluttered especially in somewhere like the living room where they are so convenient to place stuff.

All in all though the move is very exciting, it’s in a much better part of town (The Museum District) than my girlfriend’s place and we have been living there since our acquisition of a canine sidekick named Dizz so the change will be a big relief. The place is much bigger, has a loft that can be used as a home office/study so no more laptops taking over the dinner and coffee tables (this is a 5 computer household…) and the kitchen, oh the kitchen! I can actually look forward to cooking again well after I invest in some new cookware and a set of knives atleast!

Moved to A Small Orange

Published by jaseone under Website

Well after reading much about them I was just checking out their website and was tempted so I started looking into them further and when I discovered that this domain, jasonbainbridge.com was available I just couldn’t help but become a customer of A Small Orange.

Their plans are really good value and everything I have read about them is their customers raving about the service so I had no qualms what so ever in becoming their customer. They have a cool tool named Fantastico that will install most of the current, good PHP/MySQL software out there, which I thought was nice even though I’m quite comfortable getting into the nitty gritty myself sometimes it is nice to not have to just like for the very reason I have my Powerbook. :)

They had b2evolution available on Fantastico as well as what I was using previously, Wordpress, which are both forks of b2 but b2evolution looked a little snazzier so I thought I’d give it a go and see how it goes.

I’m also going to think on a whole new site design or possibly just revamping the old style as I quite liked the simplicity of it although I don’t like the variation of it I worked on recently with a black background, I liked it while I was doing it but now it just looks too neon like and tacky.

So stay tuned for many things to come…
