My first real (small) contribution to Wordpress

It is taking me a while to find my way around the internals of Wordpress but I am getting there. :)

Tiger style theme for Wordpress Admin panel

I just stumbled across this, which is an awesome plugin for Wordpress that really improves the default look & feel of wp-admin.

Unfortunately for me though it doesn’t work too well with the new Write Post screen of the 1.6 Alpha that I am running but for all you sane people out there running stable releases of 1.5 I highly recommend it! Now if something like that was incorporated for 1.6 then that would give the release a big wow factor, as I am not really feeling the love of the new Write Post design.

The movable/collapsible blocks are just a novelty in my opinion and after using the new page for a few weeks it really hasn’t changed how I use the page at all. I did however just find another useful plugin, Speedy Cat that allows you to add categories while creating a new post without leaving the Write Post screen with some of that AJAX magic that we all know and love!

Longhorn and RSS

Published by jaseone under Information Technology

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/06/24/432390.aspx

I also announced some enhancements to RSS, which we call the Simple List Extensions. The Simple List Extensions can be used to enable websites to publish lists such as photo albums, music playlists and Top 10 lists as RSS feeds. RSS can be used to publish lists like these today, but our extensions really enhance the experience that users can have when subscribing to these kinds of lists. We’re very excited about the great scenarios that these extensions can enable.

Oh fantastic yet another proprietary extension from MS, although they did follow on with:

The best part is that we’re showing a deep commitment to the RSS community by making the specification for these extensions available under the Creative Commons license, the same license under which the RSS 2.0 specification was released.

In that case why didn’t they just work with the community in the first place and have the extensions incorporated with RSS 2.1 or did they try and their extensions weren’t up to scratch?

You know I used to get excited about each Windows release but these days it is all kind of just bleh I think for more and more people that MS is really losing it’s mojo, which is sad really as they have brought a lot of good things into existence in the last 10 years or so but for the last 5 of those they really have been stagnant.

Got me some cowboy boots!

Published by jaseone under Information Technology

Well last week while we were in Fort Worth for Megan’s cousin’s wedding in the Stockyards of all places I just couldn’t help but pick up some Texas culture. I couldn’t find boots that I liked and fitted me though so I ended up buying a fancy belt and a big ole State of Texas gold/silver plated belt buckle instead to add to the black felt hat I already had from the Houston rodeo earlier this year.

Today though we headed over to Cavender’s Boots and got me a pair of these, that are made out of Kangaroo leather. I thought that was quite fitting seeing how I’m an Australian and all, now I’m just wearing them around the house in an attempt to break them in before I do any serious walking.

It is going to be such a hoot walking off the plane into Sydney airport next Sunday night with my cowboy hat, my belt buckle and my boots on, my family will definitely get a kick out of that! :D

Is something stumping you? Then Ask Jason!

Published by jaseone under Ask Jason

Okay now that just sounds corny and sounds like another Ask J… site so please don’t hold that against me! :)

I often find myself assisting others as it is something I love doing and often the subject is something I know nothing or very little about but I seem to have this knack for Google and my brain is just one big sponge so that got me to thinking that I should set something up on my site so people can ask me stuff.

Now I don’t want to take ASO stuff or Mac stuff out of the forums that I participate in so please keep those questions there but if there is anything else you want help with then please ask in a comment to this post. I’ll try that as an experiment and if I get any interest then I will look at putting some better infrastructure together for it.

Please note though this is just something I’m doing for fun and I’m not ever going to charge for the service, however if it does get popular enough then I will consider adding Google AdSense to the site to try to generate some revenue from that.

So go ahead and try to stump me. :)

Hidden simulated sex Easter Egg in GTA: San Andreas

Sen. Clinton seeks ‘Grand Theft’ sex scene probe

“We should all be deeply disturbed that a game which now permits the simulation of lewd sexual acts in an interactive format with highly realistic graphics has fallen into the hands of young people across the country,” Clinton wrote in a letter to the head of the Federal Trade Commission.

What kind of fucked up society do we live in when gratuitious violence is viewed upon in a better light than “simulated sex acts”? It’s a friggin graphically violent game and Hillary is complaining about a hidden mini-game where apparently you can control how fast the guy thrusts in a scene where you can’t see anything interesting.

The only movies of it I could find were in WMV format and VLC didn’t have the codec so I can’t comment too much but can anyone say Leisure Suit Larry? How old is that game and do we hear people complaing about that?

Sorry Hillary I was once a fan but no longer!

Cling wrap is evil!

Published by jaseone under Food, Life

Is it just me or is cling wrap just about the most evil thing ever invented? It would be so nice to be able to tear off a piece nice and cleanly, even if it was just once I would savour that moment for the rest of my life!

Oh and don’t get me started on how ordinary cling wrap no longer actually clings forcing you to buy the new, improved cling wrap that is opaque so you can’t see the food clearly and has a weird texture to it, that stuff is just horrid!
