ASO server status widget

Published by jaseone under Information Technology

I’ve kind of neglected developing the widget for a while now but am thinking that I will finish it off sometime soon and put it out there for y’all to use. I’ve decided though that it will have a server side component that you will need to install in order to get stats on all the services and not just those listed on ASO’s server status page.

So stay tuned!

New poll: Your dream place to work

Published by jaseone under Poll

The Harry Potter one was a little old so it was time to come up with a new one, hopefully this should provide some interesting results especially seeing how I’ve enabled the adding of answers for this one!

If you are wondering what my answer was, it was the fire department!

I want to work at Google just for the free meals!

Check out that menu! It is better than the menu in a lot of expensive restaurants! I’d never want to leave work (take note BMS)!

Mobipocket does porn?

Published by jaseone under Information Technology, ebooks, porn

I was just getting my PDA (HP Ipaq RX3115) back into action after it’s contents were wiped after I forgot to charge it and was browsing Mobipocket .com and their site is pretty much flooded with new content being in the form of pornographic videos that you can now download that are presumable sized for optimal viewing on a PDA.

Times must have been tough for Mobipocket to start doing that! It is kind iof annoying as the videos are flooding the bestseller and new item lists making it hard to find new ebooks that you want to download although it is tempting to purchase some of the videos but my girlfriend wouldn’t like that one bit!

Getting back into the Linux + KDE thing

Well times of late my itch has been acting up again so it is again time to get my feet wet with Linux on my trusty old Toshiba Satellite, I’ve already gone through and emerged Gentoo up to the latest & greatest and now I am just compiling a new kernel.

Once you get things up and running it is actually quite usable and enables me to do a lot that I can’t do on Windows and even some things I can’t do in my beloved OSX.

I’m also thinking it’s about time I stepped up to the mark and started being active with KDE.org development so I’ll be getting into that again real soon now!

Australia lost by 2 runs?

Published by jaseone under Cricket, Sport

linkety

Oh man! I’ve been travelling for the last who knows how long on the way back from Sydney and only just now in a bout of insomnia remembered to check the cricket results for the second match of the Ashes Tour, I can’t believe they lost by only 2 runs after being so far behind. They did well to get even that close, it must be a downer for them to get so close, oh well bring on the third match!

Now I wonder if I can find the matches televised over here anywhere….

Department stores don’t sell Digital SLRs? WTF?

Published by jaseone under Information Technology, Life

Well off I went to David Jones (an Australian department store) this afternoon intent on picking up a Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR using their current 4 year interest free offer as I suck at saving and prefer using the forced saving method that has instant gratification as a bonus only to find out that Canon won’t allow David Jones to sell their Digital SLR’s.

How disappointing.

Just added wp-cache-2 to my arsenal of WP plugins

Just in case I somehow end up getting a deluge of hits for whatever reason I have just installed the excellent WP Cache 2 plugin so my pages are smartly cached for example by posting this post it will clear the appropriate caches allowing this post to appear instantly.

If anyone notices any weirdness caused by this please let me know although I’m not expecting any problems but it could well improve performance, which would be nice. :)

Temporarily serving as text/html

It seems Google AdSense and sites served as application/xhtml+xml don’t get along well due to the document.write calls the Google AdSense Javascript uses so seeing as I am experimenting with adding some hopefully unobtrusive AdSense ads to select posts I have temporarily reverted to serving text/html for all browsers until I can come up with a workaround.

I think I miss my bars more than my dog

Published by jaseone under Life

Is that a bad thing? I think it is…

Sure I miss having my dog around while I’m on holidays but just then I was just craving really bad to sit back with a bucket of beer or two at Little Woodrows Midtown in Houston, however when we do that we usually have our dog with us so that has to count for something!
