The lowdown on iTunes Lost episodes

Published by jaseone at 6:58 pm under Movies / TV

The first thing I did when I got home after taking the dogs out was to upgrade to iTunes 6.0 and Quicktime 7.0.3, rebooted and launched iTunes then purchased the 3 episodes of Lost so far this season.

First impression: Pretty cool! The resolution is low at 320*240 but the encoding is high so it is high quality and blowing it up to full screen doesn’t have too many ill effects especially if you sit back a bit with the main downer being the lack of widescreen, still I’m fairly impressed I have got to say!

Oh and I skimmed through an episode and didn’t see any advertisements so this is pretty damn sweet if you ask me and hopefully just a taste of things to come!

I too have been loving it - resolution is not perfect, but not bad, most episodes download quickly and i have been able to catch up with the whole season. Actually, it is better than watching it on TV because there are no advertisements, which are terribly annoying.

Two things to improve the service would be: 1) upload episodes immediately after they are shown on TV, not a day later, and 2) start providing movies on itunes also.

    Lost.SxxExx.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
    Dimensions 608×336
    Bitrate 1153kbps
    Framerate 24fps
…excellent quality, widescreen, no commercials, High Definition, DVD quality audio, free from local p2p network. heh

There is a great Canadian show called ReGenesis that I really do enjoy watching and although it is not intellectually challenging it is nicely written and the actors are good to very good. However once I have watched it, well I may watch it in two or three years time, but most probably not before then. So what would the pricing be for series ? On this blog an episode of the series Lost is described as costing 2 dollars, has no commercials, with a good quality and also on the same page it looks as if they have cleverly come up with the idea of a ‘season pass’ ! I’m wondering if it came from Jasonbainbridge.com since he seems to have asked for this before it was implemented Jason also in another post gives details on the format which seems to be high quality but at a low resolution : 320*240 and looks OK in full screen mode !
