The keyword to your whole argument is “If”. Now i could say that i can beat Andre Arlovski at kickboxing IF he kneels down so i can kick him in the face. But thats just not going to happen.

The way i see it is that Gracie taking this fight in the first place was a stupid decision which has only rewarded him with a sore face. He should have fought other contenders in the welterweight division and earned a title shot.

Is this the same Royce Gracie that flailed his legs for a while, got punched in the face, was outwrestled and taken down, was almost caught in an armbar and eventually pounded out a few minutes into the first round with a series of punches and elbows to the head?

You make it sound like he got crushed. He just got overpowered on the ground. If the clinch would have been a bit different, if Gracie could have mounted Hughes then it would have been a whole different story.

And you say he “flailed his legs around”. He was obviously trying to get out from under hughes, and he almost did.
