This isn't the same Royce Gracie that we saw 10 years ago. Royce was in there because he was getting paid, not because he wanted to win. 10 years ago Royce had fire in his eyes, he froze his opponents with his stare and had something to prove when he went into the ring. This time he was out of shape physically, and wasn't ready mentally. You could see in his eyes that he didn't care. For his part he pulled Matt Hughes into his game plan with his pesky kicks and slaps. Matt couldn't hit him and had no choice but to get into the grappling range. From there I think Royce stymied Hughes on the ground to the point where Matt had no other choice but to start punching. He couldn't submit Royce, even in the armbar the look on Royce's face was pure relaxation. If Royce had trained properly for the fight he would have taken Hughes' back from when he got out of the cross-mount and submitted him but he wasn't ready and wound up getting punched. One last thing, Matt wasn't hitting him squarely and had this fight not had time limits I think it may have been different too.</blockquote>

Let me know when you get released from the mental hospital. I'll make a cake.

Maybe he meant it literally?

Oh come on, Royce was totaly overpowered in every aspect of the fight. I'm pretty sure that Hughes didn't break his arm out of decency.

The keyword to your whole argument is "If". Now i could say that i can beat Andre Arlovski at kickboxing IF he kneels down so i can kick him in the face. But thats just not going to happen.

Anythings possible though eh ;)

The way i see it is that Gracie taking this fight in the first place was a stupid decision which has only rewarded him with a sore face. He should have fought other contenders in the welterweight division and earned a title shot.

"Strength does matter, just not to Royce"

Is this the same Royce Gracie that flailed his legs for a while, got punched in the face, was outwrestled and taken down, was almost caught in an armbar and eventually pounded out a few minutes into the first round with a series of punches and elbows to the head?

Jas, it appears you owe Gus your life and your dignity.</blockquote>

You make it sound like he got crushed. He just got overpowered on the ground. If the clinch would have been a bit different, if Gracie could have mounted Hughes then it would have been a whole different story.

And you say he "flailed his legs around". He was obviously trying to get out from under hughes, and he almost did.
