Bio

I am a 30 year old male originally from Sydney, Australia, then Perth, Australia and now residing in Houston, USA. I work as a Senior Technical Consultant for BMS Solutions, which is a software development company specializing in providing software to manage safety and environmental data for the mining and oil industry.

For my home computing environment I am currently using Gentoo running the KDE 3.4RC1 on my Toshiba Satellite 2430 Laptop for all my development needs and when it comes to design & play I have my 1.5Ghz Powerbook running the glorious OSX. This website is now based on the excellent Wordpress blogging software as I decided I don’t really have the time to mess with PHP all the time to update my site.

Work wise I have done just about every role within Information Technology in one way or another as you can see from my Resume, what I most enjoy doing is mentoring and assisting people with their problems. It just gives me pleasure to be able to share my knowledge and help others to be able to do their job better and more efficiently for a similar reason I also like to evangelise on technical matters. I consider myself fairly knowledgable on current technology trends and have a good feel for how technology can best be used for a particular situation.

A lot of the time though I am biased in my opinion as I am a strong believer in Open Source Software (OSS) and am hesitant to recommend any proprietary solutions, especially when there is an OSS equivalent available. Although having said that the majority of the time the OSS equivalent is better than the proprietary solution, often the only negative involved with an OSS solution is that it doesn’t have a shiny GUI to hold a sysadmin’s hand to be able to configure it.

More will be coming soon…
