An Aussie geek stuck in Texas

Anyone who has been to an Astros game must have seen the Astros Girls at sometime or another, you know the girls where one of them has AST painted on their stomach and the other has ROS along with a  snarky remark about the away team on their backs? Well if you haven’tthen you need to stop by the 9 Amigo’s bar at the juice box or just keep your eyes on the TV coverage!

Anyway I digress… The whole point of this post is that one of the Astros Girls, Amberlee is embarking upon a modeling career and needs your help! She is currently a candidate for the Girls Riding 2008 Calendar but in order to make the cut she currently needs 87 more posters of herself (of the picture linked in this post) to be sold by April 22nd so you have like 25 days to spend your $9.99 (plus postage) and as an added bonus you will also receive the 2008 calendar so what do you have to lose?

Today we went and played paint ball for the first time with some guys from Megan’s work at some really hard to find place down I-45 South, which makes me wonder just how legal is it in Texas? Their sign was tiny and very hard to see!

It was a real blast though, borrowed all the equipment from one of her co-workers who had like half a dozen guns so it only cost us $25 each for the whole day to get air refills and the use of a ref & the grounds to fight on. However as you can see from the T being in parentheses in the title, those little balls hurt like nothing else, I have a few nice little bruises from it but damn was it ever worth it!

Now I just need to go out and buy all my own gear!

I have been procrastinating on this project for quite a while now, playing with this script and that script trying to find a good fit for what I wanted to achieve but I finally decided on Vanilla Forums to serve as the core of the site, did a little configuration and now Hip in Houston is ready for initial public consumption.

What is Hip in Houston? It is a new discussion forum that makes it quick and easy to discuss all your favorite bars & clubs in Houston. I’ve been wanting a similar forum to discuss such things myself and there just isn’t anything out there that is as quick & easy as Hip in Houston.

Plus I will never add any intrusive advertising to the site if I did ever add any advertising it would be text ads from Google adsense but I have no need to raise revenue for the project so you won’t be seeing any ads for the forseeable future!

A Guide For The Un-Initated To Buying Guinness In An Irish Pub

I love it!

A science of rings is developing - the instance that comes to mind is determining a persons nationality by the number of rings (a ring is dependent on a swig of Guinness each swig leaving it’s own ring). An Irishman will have in the region of 5-6 rings (we pace ourselves), an Englishman will have 8-10 rings, an American will have 17-20 (they sip) and an Australian won’t have any at all as they tend to knock it back in one go!

Oh what a great weekend! If only I hadn’t gotten a little sun burnt on my shoulders it would have been a fantastic one, it was almost as good as taking a vacation so now I feel nice & refreshed, ready to take on the week!

Back when I first started living in Houston a little over a year ago an ice house named Little Woodrows in Midtown was pretty much my saving grace, before that place I knew nobody in this town and after becoming a regular I got to know a lot of great people and ever since then it has been a popular place for me to visit with my girlfriend but recently the place had somehow lost it’s charm. A lot of the familiar, female faces behind the bar had moved onto real jobs and the regular crowd wasn’t so regular but tonight restored a little bit of that magic.

I’m not sure what it was exactly but with Kelly behind the bar anticipating whenever I needed another beer, my girlfriend (the very lovely Megan :-)), friends Jill & Keith to hang out with along with Booker off in the background, even the presence of Terry who I can never work out if I should be worried about or just be passing friends with added to the effect, then with Vanessa as the cocktail waitress and Armando as the bar back it just seemed like old times and well just put me in the best of moods.
