Me kissing a pink dolphin

Published by jaseone under Blog

A photo of me kissing a pink dolphin at Sentosa Island in Singapore. We had gotten to the dolphin show at Dolphin Cove on Sentosa Island just after it started and midway into the show they were after two volunteers to play with the dolphins that would involve going into the water up into your neck… I did a quick check of what I was wearing and the heavy shorts I was wearing would be a real pain to get wet but I said to heck with it and started waving. to my surprise I was chosen.

So after emptying my pockets I headed down and the first thing the little girl (that was also chosen) and I had to do was hula hoop while the dolphins played behind us and of course I was a complete & utter failure at that! Then it was fun time! I got to wade out and meet the pink dolphin, give it a hug, then it wanted to kiss me (as per the photo) and then I got to feed the dolphin. Overall it was a very cool experience, unfortunately I didn’t get any Flipper like action and didn’t get to hold onto it’s dorsal fin to go along for a ride but maybe next time!

Farewell to Morgan “The Vital Organ” Ensberg!

Published by jaseone under Sport, astros

On Sunday the Houston Astros designated Morgan Ensberg for assignment meaning that gave them 10 days to either trade him ,release him or send him down the the minor leagues but they made it clear the latter was not an option. this kind of saddened me as Morgan is a great guy, truly one of the “Good Guys” sure he had been struggling lately but just recently he had found his swing and was hitting pretty well so was showing a lot of promise!

Yesterday some co-workers and I actually saw him at Best Buy, my first thought was just to leave him be and not bother him as I am sure plenty of fans annoy him already but in hindsight I kind of wish I went up to him to let him know the fans still care about The Vital Organ and wish him all the best!

Today just before the trade deadline it was announced he was traded to the San Diego Padres for either an unknown player or cash, at first I thought that was a tough break but then I learned he had a house in San Diego so it sounds like it all worked out for him! So Morgan best of luck with the Padres, hopefully we see you as a regular starter and knocking the stuffing out of the ball! Oh and when the Padres are in town you better do some outfielding in batting practice and say hi to all of us at the 9 Amigo’s Bar in centerfield!

OggSync vs. GooSync

Published by jaseone under Tech

Lately I have been looking for ways to keep my life better organized as I really am hopeless when it comes to planning things and getting things done so I had a goal to sync all my calendars together so they were available from wherever I wanted them. Seeing how I recently purchased a Treo 750 my first thoughts leaned towards setting up a MS Exchange account online but I just couldn’t bring myself to use Exchange for my personal account as well as at work so next I thought about Google Calendar.

The first step I went through to sync my life with Google Calendar was to use the excellent Spanning Sync to sync my Mac Book Pro’s iCal with my Google Calendar, that then allowed me to use Missing Sync to sync my Treo with my Mac. This kept everything in sync well enough but I only use the Mac when I’m at home and having to connect to it to sync up my calendar was a real pain, this led me to search for alternatives to sync my Google Calendar directly with my Treo over the air….

At first I purchased GooSync as it seemed the better option and the freeware worked fine for me first time where for some reason OggSync didn’t work first go around as the .NET framework failed to install (I suspect that was user error as I think I may have selected the wrong .cab file to download). However I didn’t like the way that GooSync handled my different Google Calendars on my Treo as it simply prefixed the event summary with an abbreviated name of the Google Calendar instead of using categories and plus there was no support for automatic syncing in the background.

That led me to give OggSync another go, this time around ensuring I installed the right version of the .NET framework and with a successful run of using the freeware version I decided to give the commercial version of OggSync a go, which was successful except for an issue with the timezone of one of my calendars in Google Calendar that I had to resolve. OggSync supports the different calendars as they should be handled by using your Google Calendar names as categories and it also supports automatic background syncing to a schedule that you can set yourself.

Needless to say I have canceled my GooSync subscription and have requested a refund as it just didn’t suit my needs where GooSync suits my needs a lot better and I highly recommend it if you want to sync your Windows Mobile based device with your Google Calendar over the air!
